ABOUT THE AUTHORKate Fischer began her career as an artist in kindergarten when she learned how to sign her paintings as KATE and refused to learn the rest of the alphabet. She has been breaking all the rules ever since. She grew up on the Chain of Lakes in Central Minnesota causing much trouble and driving her parents crazy. Kate eventually learned the ABCs and made her way to art school. She has spent the past decade utilizing her skills as a graphic artist to create packaging and branding for small businesses and nonprofit organizations across the U.S.
Kate is married to Mr. Joshua Fischer, the local kindergarten gym teacher and coach of all the things. He is tall, dark, and handsome with a passion for bacon and is blessed with a terrible singing voice - which Kate loves dearly. They live in a cool old house out in the woods among the mosquitoes and their 3 ridiculous children: Charlie, Loretta Joy and Betty Ann. Kate is the author and illustrator of Your Angel Army and is currently working on future manuscripts that promise to make you smile and probably cry a bit too (but in a good way). |
WHY DID I WRITE THIS BOOK?In 2016, I witnessed how the cruelty of cancer can devastate a family. I also witnessed how it can bring together prayer warriors and strengthen the faith of a community. My uncle Wally would be the first to admit he was far from a saint, but there is no doubt in my mind that God sent down a fierce army of angels to help us all get through that season.
After his passing, I wrote a poem for my dear uncle. Through the grace of God (and magic of social media) that poem landed on the Facebook news feed of Kayla Strand just weeks after her husband was laid to rest. Kayla became a dear friend and I was blessed to join her on a journey to launch the INDY Foundation, a non profit organization dedicated to providing financial and faith-based support to families battling cancer.

I often took my children, Charlie and Loretta, to visit Uncle Wally in the hospital. My Aunt Sheri never left his side, and through example, she taught me all about unconditional love and grace.

My time spent as Brand Manager for INDY brought many amazing, inspirational people into my world and am forever indebted to Kayla for the impact she's had on my life. God placed a new adventure on my heart in the spring of 2019 and I stepped back from INDY to focus on the creation of this book. Your Angel Army is not centered on one particular illness or disease. In fact, it can be used to lead families to prayer during any hardship and never mentions words like "cancer" anywhere in its poetic text or whimsical illustrations.
It is my sincere hope that Your Angel Army will bring a bit of peace to your heart and will be used as a tool to discuss hard truths with the little angels in your life.
